Privacy Policy
Your data stays on your device.
Overview
MetHere is a local-first iOS app. The people, places, tags, and notes you add are stored on your device. We do not operate a backend for your content. Some data is sent to third-party services for analytics, crash reporting, and purchases, and to Apple system services to provide core functionality (maps, iCloud, location, notifications, microphone, speech recognition, camera, Photos, and StoreKit).
Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not require accounts
- We do not access your contacts or call logs
- Photos you choose to take or attach stay on your device with your other app data
- We do not sell your data and do not use it for advertising
- We do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies
- We do not display ads in MetHere
Information We Collect and Store
Information you enter (stored on your device)
- People you add (name, position, notes, tags, favorite/heart status, photos, dates, and the encounters you've recorded)
- Places you add (name, nickname, address/label, coordinates, favorites, proximity alert settings, and counts/timestamps for places you've returned to)
- Tags and related metadata
- Moments and milestones earned through app usage
- Notification history inside the app
Location data
- Precise location when you capture a place pin or use place search (if you grant permission)
- Background location if you enable nearby place alerts (geofencing — set to Always)
- Place coordinates and optional timestamps are stored on your device. Proximity alerts are evaluated on your device — your location is not sent to us to power them
- The one time place coordinates leave your device is when you choose to share: the coordinates of any place attached to the people you share are included in the share-link payload (see "Share links" above)
MetHere does not transmit your precise location coordinates for advertising or cross-app tracking.
Audio / Speech (optional dictation)
If you use dictation, iOS microphone and speech recognition are used to transcribe your speech into text. MetHere does not store audio recordings. Apple speech services may process audio to provide transcription (some recognition runs on-device on newer iPhones; some is processed by Apple's servers).
Camera and Photos (optional)
- If you take or pick a photo for a person, the image is resized and saved on your device only — not transmitted to our servers
- If you save a share card, the image is saved to your Photos library (if you grant permission)
- If you export a backup, a backup file is written to your device and you can choose to save it to iCloud Drive or another location
Share links (Firebase Firestore)
MetHere stays on your device — with one exception you control. When you tap Share to send someone a share link, the people you selected for that share are uploaded to a Firebase Firestore document so the link's recipient can open it. Only what you explicitly chose to share is uploaded.
- The uploaded payload includes, for each person you shared: their name, position, the date you met, and your notes about them
- It also includes, for any place attached to those people: the place name, your nickname for it, its label, and its coordinates
- It does not include your encounter history, your photos, your tags, or anyone you did not select for that share
- Anyone with the share link can open and read that document — that is how sharing works. Share links are short-lived and are not tied to your identity
- If you never use the Share feature, none of your people or place data is ever uploaded
Usage analytics (TelemetryDeck)
MetHere uses TelemetryDeck, a privacy-first analytics service, to understand feature usage and improve reliability. We log app usage events covering navigation, feature usage, errors, onboarding, purchases, proximity alerts, and similar interactions.
- Event parameters are limited to internal UUIDs (such as a venue ID), enum values (such as a venue type), counts, booleans, durations, and timing buckets
- We do not send the names, notes, tags, or addresses you enter to analytics. This is enforced by an automated check that runs on every code change and blocks any commit that would violate this rule
- TelemetryDeck does not use cookies, IDFA, or device fingerprinting. Each device is represented by an anonymous hashed identifier that cannot be linked back to you
- Analytics may include coarse, non-identifying user properties such as your free/Pro tier, install week, and bucketed counts of people and places, used for cohort analysis
We do not display ads in MetHere and do not use analytics data for advertising. TelemetryDeck processes this data on EU-based servers under its own privacy policy.
Website analytics (Google Analytics)
The MetHere marketing website at methere.app uses Google Analytics 4 to measure page views, section views, navigation usage, App Store/support link clicks, and your privacy choice.
- This helps us understand website performance and improve site content and conversion paths
- GA4 may use first-party cookies or similar browser storage to measure repeat visits and engagement
- We ask for your consent before enabling website analytics — until you accept, no analytics events are sent
- We configure GA4 with advertising personalization disabled and Google Signals disabled
- Website analytics does not include the names, notes, tags, or place content entered inside the app
Google may process analytics data according to its own privacy policies. You can change your choice at any time using the Privacy choices button on the site, and you can also reduce tracking through browser controls or Google's Analytics opt-out tools.
Crash reporting and performance monitoring (Sentry)
MetHere uses Sentry to monitor app stability and diagnose crashes. If the app crashes or hits an unhandled error, diagnostic information may be sent to Sentry, including device model, operating system version, app version, a stack trace of the failure, and breadcrumbs of recent UI interactions and network requests leading up to the error.
Sentry also collects a small sample of performance data — measurements like app launch time, screen transition timing, and slow-frame samples — so we can find and fix performance regressions after release. This sampling is anonymous and is not linked to your identity.
- Crash and performance reports help us fix bugs and keep the app fast and reliable
- We do not send the names, notes, tags, or addresses you enter to Sentry. Breadcrumbs capture the type of action (such as "venue added" or "paywall opened"), not the text you typed
- Crash and performance data may be associated with a device or app instance identifier
Crash and performance data is processed by Sentry on US-based servers according to their privacy policy and is used solely to improve the stability and performance of MetHere.
Purchases and Subscriptions (RevenueCat + Apple)
MetHere offers Pro access via monthly subscription ($3.99/mo), annual subscription ($14.99/yr), or a one-time lifetime purchase ($29.99). Subscriptions include a 14-day free trial and auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period via your Apple ID Account Settings.
Purchases are processed by Apple and validated with RevenueCat. We receive entitlement and subscription status information (for example: Pro/free status, plan type, trial status, and expiration date). We do not receive your full payment details. RevenueCat and Apple may process device identifiers, transaction identifiers, and subscription lifecycle events to validate purchases, manage renewals, and restore access.
How We Use Information
- Provide core app features (people, places, tags, insights, share cards)
- Enable location-based alerts you choose to turn on
